    It doesn't remember my root password, I doubt I would have typed it the same wrong way 2 times.

    Yet again, I'll start over...

    this is a quick fix.
    log in, then in a terminal change to root. edit your /etc/inittab file and change the run level to 3. reboot.

    your back at the command line and can login as root or the user.

    Mandrake, root please !

    I'm trying Linux for the Xth time, and I installed in too much of a hurry and did some mistakes.

    It now auto logs on graphically on KDE with a user I created. Now I want to log in as root, but since the login is graphical there is only the regular user there.

    There used to be a time when I logged in Linux by the text interface and when I wanted graphics I typed startx.

    Now how do I login as root ?
