Yeah, I've begun to notice that they can get annoying real quick. I guess my next question then is, how do I turn them off if possible?

This gets to be a real pain when you are on a large network at a university and such, when someone think's it must be cute to send a message out every 15 minutes to the whole subnet .

From command prompt, type 'net send <computername> <message>'.

Those are the popups... In win95 there was the this gui for it, called 'winpopup'.

    Windows Intranet Messaging Service?

I upgraded to Win2K this week and started receiving messages from other users on my network. I've never seen them before and am wondering how to start sending messages myself. The messages are simple dialog popup boxes that say "Messenger Service" and are formatted similar to this:

    -----------------------------------
    Message from <COMPUTER> to <COMPUTER> on 12/12/2001 1:50:49 AM

This is where the message would go.
    -----------------------------------

Then there's an OK button and that's all. They just pop up on my screen from time to time. Does anyone know what I'm referring to and how to access it?
