Thread: Which Sub is better?
December 14th, 2004, 09:39 PM #41
Heh. I'll give you that. Still, 4 gauge. You could run 5000W off that. Our 2,400W amps only have 8 gauge power leads.

lol. I rarely see anything below 4 guage recommended for over 500W. 8 guage would create some current draw and heat problems for a true 2400W amp.

Car audio is a different world and people overbuild everything. I run my 400W amp with 14 gauge, or is it 12? But it's fine. I'm actually overrunning the amp too, so it's probably pulling more current than it's supposed to.
Oh well, I guess when my car burns up, I'll be wrong.

I just got back from wal-mart (Got fuel injector cleaner fuel additive stuff) And they had a box set with 2 8" subs at 200watts. I was like "Cool, I could use somthing like that, it may be from wal-mart but its probably better than the stock speakers I have." I then looked at the price.
$14.78 for TWO subwoofers! Is this just a gmmick?
Also, for $14, would these even be worth it? I mean, are these even better than stock speakers? (Made in 1990)

I'm old and I run a pair of Shivas...
If you are stuck in the budget end of sub land, consider the Dayton Quatro subs.
Put it in a sealed box of 1.75 to 2.35 cu ft and stand back. Maybe your prefab box can be modified: cut some openings between the two compartments, seal over one driver opening and enlarge the other to accept a 15"...

BTW, that Quatro sub is on sale for $70 until 5 PMET Friday December 16. Be there or be square....

A guy in my college class told me today that he is getting two Audiobahn 12" subs rated at 700watts RMS a piece, and a 2200watt RF amp to power them installed into his car tomorrow.

I'm not an Audiobahn fan at all. I just don't find that they compare well to other subs in their supposed class. Granted, though, they are one of the cheaper subs in each class.
Give me 1 Brahma or XXX to take out those 2 audiobahns any day.
December 18th, 2004, 05:08 PM #53
Well, he is only paying $70 a piece for teh Audiobahns.

I used to be in car audio a while back.. had a decent setup... then it all got stolen and the insurance refused to cover it..
sort of took the wind out of my sails for a bit... think i'll focus on home audio next..
