How to install C-Media AC97 audio output device for Windows XP

When i go to Control panel-->Sounds and Audio devices
there is a message "No audio device" under the Volume tab .
    Under the "Hardware" tab,
    For C-Media AC97 Audio device,
the status is -This device cannot start (code 10)

How can i solve this problem?

Most likely you need to re-install the sound chip driver...
Do you know the model of your motherboard?
If not, you can use Everest to find out, or figure out the chipset or sound chip
Then you can either look up the driver on the motherboard manufacturer's website, or go directly to the chip makers site to find the driver you need...
