Proper hard drives for Raid 1

I need to buy a couple of new drives for a Raid 1 config on my Asus mobo's board- P5QPRO.

I was just about to purchase just the typical everyday hard drive from Seagate like i always do since i never raided these drives before but i'm readin a lot of problems with 24x7 reliability...

I never shut this pc off so i need 24x7 reliability.

My two non raided drives just both died in less than 19months.

So i got to wondering if i really need to purchase hard drives specifically for 24x7 use for raid 1?

I was looking at the WD Re-3 drives... but i also see great reviews on Samsung's Spinpoint F4s as well.

The F4s are way cheaper for the capacity you get so what should i do?

Any drive is has the potential to fail due to all the moving parts. Read the reviews make sure they have a solid warranty (some offer only one year while others offer three) and back up your stuff off the drivers!

Whoever said raid was not reliable?

Anyway I've had a server built with raid zero for years now that i run 24x7

I used 2 seagate 500 sata 3.0 for a long time, then about a year ago I updated them to 2 1tb seagate drives just for more room.

They never give me issues, but all drives can fail at any time, I once got one that lasted 3 days only. Luck of the draw.

So if you want reliable then get an additional 2 drives the same and also do a raid mirroring as well.
