Question How can I open my tower case (Dell)

I want to install a new DVD/CD burner but can't figure out how to open the case of the tower. I have a Dell Dimension4100 but am stumped. Also I've never opened a case before. Can anyone help?

usually there are four screws located on the back of the computer around the outer edge. I don't know about Dell's, but on normal computer cases you remove these screws and then the case slides back and off the computer frame.

look at the back of your case on the edge there should be a nuber of screws. use a screw driver and take them out and slide the side pannel off!!!!! maybe u should get a friend to install the dvd/cd drive tho.

I have a dell dimension 2400....they just have one little lever on the bacl of the side cover...you gently pull that lever down (or up?) and then you slide the side cover off

thanks much, I was able to solve that problem a while back and installed the drive myself with not much effort and later purchased a new computer. Appreciate your input though.

They do, but you have to read the manual to find the description.

    Hi Akins,

You start by telling us what model your Dell is. Otherwise, you'll need the universal case-opening tool, an AX!!

    an ax?

I thought a Sawzall & Jaws of Life were required Hardware for those?

It is a Dell after all. Although I've known a few HP's like that as well. Practically an all Metal Fully Welded shut box LOL.

My old Dell Dimension 4100 was really hard to open, and the case was like a vault. You could have dropped that thing from a ten-story building with only minor damage.

I Think I have a 1st/2nd Gen Pentium System in the Basement (Pentium 133MHz or 166Mhz with MMX), Packard Bell, that would also qualify in this Category as well.
