Hi daniel and welcome to techimo.
if you are building a computer, video is a necessary component. a computer will not boot up unless it has a video card or onboard video installed. some motherboards come with onboard video meaning that the video card is integrated into the motherboard itself.
not all video cards will work on all motherboards. basically there are three types: PCI, AGP, and PCI-E. A PCI card fits into the PCI slot on the motherboard. all motherboards have PCI slots. It is a bad idea these days to get a PCI video card because of poor performance. The same goes for integrated graphics. Ordinarily, one would desire either an AGP, or PCI-E graphics card. Motherboards are manufactured with either an AGP or PCI-E slot for the graphics card and, accordingly, you would want to get a graphics card which matches the type of slot your motherboard has. |

Well you may be better off starting off by telling us what you want to do with this computer... what your budget is...
As a specific answer to you question... you need a video signal from your computer, so you either need a motherboard with built in graphics.... or a separate video card...
There are plenty of situations where onboard graphics are more than fine for what your doing...
and if you purchase wisely you can always leave open the possibility to upgrade later on...
and Welcome to Techimo... lol

Does anyone know a suitable mobo with pretty good onboard video? I have a feeling that may suffice for now, then daniel can always upgrade.
I always get a mobo with onboard video (if possible) to make it easier to put together a system to sell, when you upgrade to a new board on the main system.
