a vacuum cleaner hepa filter pack might do what you need, such as a vax or dyson filter pack. keep an eye on your temps for a while before and after fitting filters to make sure you dont suffocate the machine. |

I wouldn't bother with buying specifically computer fan filters. You're gonna have to replace rather frequently. I like the floor vent filter thing.
This is my 800th post! Only 201 to go!

in the absense of any of the filters mentioned above, i decided to tape some 'bounty paper towel' over the back of my 120mm fan which is sucking air in and blowing onto the CPU fan.
Here are the results after 1hour of heavy game play. -
Fan 1 is CPU fan (Gigabyte rocket cooler)
Fan 2 is my noisy Abit northbridge fan
Fan 3 - not really sure, think its my graphics card fan thats plugged into the m/board.
Didnt make much temp difference, my system runs pretty hot anyway.

Sorry just mentioned a few stores of where you might find them, you can get them lots of places similar or find them online.
The filters for heat registers is just made of a good material to catch dust and be cleaned, i'd use them over the scotch bright pads tho(they might be a good idea if you can't find any). The fiber material used in those fan grills above that you can buy work pretty well too and you can just keep cleaning them out with water. Both allow more airflow than a paper towel. However I have known a few people to use a piece of cloth, and one had found a fabric softner type material that was for a filter and worked decently and wasn't all gunked up with fabric softner and allowed better airflow.
I'd see which offers you more airflow and stick with that. BTW most computers have the back fan as the exhaust because it takes away all that hot air from the HSF on your processor. Have you ever revered your fan? |

Yes, i did change all my fans around. had a rather detramental effect!
changed the air flow from back 120mm sucking in & 2 x 80mm blowing out of a front grill.
and 1 80mm side panel fan blowing in (unchanged)
after attaching the paper towell to the back i thought it would all work smoothly.
Not at all, eventually ran waaay too hot under load.
is now all back to normal with the 120mm sucking out and 2 front sucking in & no filters.
fitting filters to the front requires me taking the front panel off which i dont yet have the right tool for.
I have this HSF - http://www.hardcoreware.net/reviews/review-234-1.htm
gigabyte rocket cooler. it sucks air in through side fins, dont most HSF draw air away from CPU?
