Why don't you just install a new fan?
Most power supplies use a standard 80mm case fan.

usually the fan starting to go bad will make the loud noise but remember the fans usuall do produce a little noise the fan can be replaced in the power supply as it just fits over a set of pins inside the power supply make note of the polarity if the connector does not have a locking lug. also frequent cleaning will keep the dust from getting too thick sometimes the fan can be put out of balance by dust buildup. (will make it very noisy) |

The fan is probably a sleeve-bearing fan which tend to be quieter but wear out rather quickly. Once it starts to wear out, the fans starts tilting to one side and start spinning at an angle so you get these horrible noises. Only real solution is to replace it. But be damn careful if you open the power supply. Depending on the quality of it, it will still retain a charge up to 6 months after it's been unplugged. |
