hey thnx.. in taking interest ...
see basically i'm a home user .. and a fan of 3d games .. but just not the hardcore type .. previously i had a Compaq Preasrio PIII - 650 , 192 SDRAM ..so never had the oppurunity to play big games .. but like u say tht .. p4 extreme .. will take up most of my budget .. i'd rather prefer amd 64... also .. i use the comp intensely .. and not just for timepass.. so there it is .. please reply...
cheers

Definately worth buying AMD64, its alot cheaper than P4 Extreme series, also DDR2 memory is currently cheap and no worth investing b/c it cant benefit much from it so far. Also, since ur buying from india its gonna cost abit more i believe?
and ur buying from a director right?
Here are som config for your advice
AMD 64 2800+ or 3000+ with 754 socket
Whatever brand PC3200 512MB DDR (400Mhz)
17LCD monitor with high dot pitch (higher the better mostly .25)
Video card....depends what are you going to use the computer for....so let me know
speaker....I also want to know if u want a decent speaker. This also depends on ur personal preference.
And DVD writter is a must if u want to burn CDs and DVDs.
Yea i cant really say anything until i know what the PC usage is for

I like NEC's LCD monitors myself.
DVD burner should be dual-layer capable and preferably - plus/minus format capable.
Sony and Lite-On are good brands. Bill

well there has to be something else you do with it if your not a hardcard gamer, it would be easier if you rate these from 1-10 (1 lowest) on how often you do them
gaming
multi-tasking
watching movies, listening to music
video/audio editing
web based coding
photo editing
application based coding
other (list)
personally i would get a regular p4 for anything but a deticated gaming machine
ps lower dot pitch is better |

I'm bad at spellings..dun care thou | getting DDR2 now is kinda useless... no big difference, also if u go AMD u have to get DDR.. Kingston Value or any other known brand will be good... 512MB-1GB will be good... also a Geforce 6600GT should last u a good while... |
