| looking for a fan controller...
Im in the market for a fan controller similar to this one http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...uctCode=371024
But what i want is the ability to do at least 4 fans and be able to control them to turn off and then on and some with speed control like the one shown, but the connectors for the fans have to support both molex(4pin) and 3 pin conectors since my 120mm fan has molex and some others have 3pin.. the bad thing about this one is that its on backorder.
If you see any on this site or another site that meet what i describe please post a link i'll probably buy one in a day or so if i can find a reasonable deal http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813999251

one large transistor (5 amp ish), one 5 k potentiometer, one 1/4 watt 330 ohm resistor, a heat sink, female and male molex plugs, some solder shrink wrap and patience. Thats the kind i use. Home made and they work great. If seriously interested ill explain how in detail...
btw this isnt pulled outta my rear i took a year or two of electronics

I have that zalman you showed, havent had a single problem ,was easy to install/use. Only thing I didnt like is the lights are bright when i went to bed and the comp was in my room. So i would turn the fans down just to make the lights dimmer. Now comp is not in my room and I love them.

i was actualy going to buy that, but i got turned off because of the lights, it seems like everything now comes with lights on it. i had to paint my usb hub because the blue lights lit up my room so much at night.

The Zalman controller can only handle 7W per fan - that is about 0.6 Amps and may not be able to shut some fans completely off as it only goes down to 6.5V equivalent. Many fans these days can run on down to 5V or less. Most all fan controllers have only 3-pin fan connectors and 2 or 3-wire extensions with 3-pin connectors on both ends, one male one female. If you need to use 4 pin fans, you'll have to order extra adapters along with the controller or just replace the fan connectors with standard 3-wire female - both of the companies I linked have contacts and shells to do that mod.
. I've seen the Sunbeam Rheobus controllers for under $10 recently that have a 0 to 12V range and supplies up to 20W per fan. I've heard that those Sunbeams don't include any extensions/adapters other than for the main power (drive power extension M/F). So you'll need to order what you need along with. Check at jab-tech.com and svc.com . Sunbeam Rheobus controllers work well with all fans as they are linear - others like CoolerMaster and probably the Zalman use PWM control circuits that can cause some fans (e.g. Panaflo and other sleeve bearing tipes) to buzz.
