Pop in another 512MB DDR and a new graphics card and you're good to go for gaming.

Yeah is it custom build or a Acer, HP or something?

Add another 512mb of ram (DDR 400, check if it is compatible with your mobo) and a new graphics card.

I'd suggest about a 6600GT . If you love ATI get something along the lines of an x800GT

NO, PCI-E is not the same as PCI. PCI is old and PCI-E is the latest slot.

If you do have a PCI-E slot then whats your budget?

According to this I found on HP's website your model of Compaq PC has an available AGP slot.
So yeah upgrade your graphics for sure and add some more ram.
What is your budget? Do you prefer Nvidia or ATI?

Also in that upgrade you will need to check out what Power Supply if you got for a 6600GT AGP then you will need at least 350W on it
