| Rubberized undercoating questions
Ok, I think I made a BIG mistake.
I got it in my head that rubberized undercoating would look really cool for a paint job on a PC, so I sanded the case and 'painted' it with the stuff.
Only problem is, five hours later, it's still smearing off! It's like it won't completely dry. I did all the proper preperation, like sanding, and cleaning it and sprayed in an appropriate environment in three thin layers, (each one dry to the touch before the next layer).
My questions are:
1) Is this normal for the undercoating to smear off when it's fully set up?
2) How long is long enough dry time at 65f degrees?
3) What's the easiest way to get it off completely and start over?
Thanks in advance... oh, and go ahead and laugh at me, I may diserve it >< |

That stuff does real well if you let the can heat up first...by that I mean leave in the sun for 20-30 minutes to let the solution inside warm up (Please don't put in microwave ).
Your prep on the surface should have included a rubbing alcohol/scotch-brite wipe down...to complete remove moisture from the surface and to rough it up a little to allow proper adhesion.
You said you applied three layers. If you didn't allow the first layer to dry properly before applying the next coat, it will significantly increase the curing/drying time, as the first layer needs exposure to the ambient air to properly cure.
To remove, I would suggest a putty knife/utility knife like this:
Then thoroughly clean with Rubbing alcohol.
Also, I noticed just now this thread is 8 months old. |
