And if you don't learn something every day, you're living it wrong.

Let's get one of the case modding supply stores to start carrying such a clock - only made to fit in a 3.5" bay using a floppy psu connector.
Okay, who's gonna do it?
Looks very good on the outside Beemer. Looks like !$@$ inside.

hmmmmm Nice mod. Couple questions for both you and others.
1. whaddya ditch the radio for? Seems like you could have integrated the tuner dial along with the buttons and output the signal to the soundcard. That woulda been neat too.
2. I have limited knowledge of PS outputs. Is there one you could tap 12V from at all times? Even when the system was off so the clock is always on? I have a few clocks I may sacrafice to such a project. |

It has that 9v batter backup... AFAIK a 9v battery will last years in a clock radio, because all it does is power the clock circuitry (quartz crystal and a module to make sense of the frequency it outputs to keep time.) So if the computer only ran 6 hours a day you'd be fine with one 9v battery for quite some time.
A real electronics enthuisist would figure out a way to wire up a system that would charge a NiCd or NiMH rechargeable while the computer was running. That would be some project. |

Hmmm ST3... were you answering my question?
In question #2 what my goal is is to have the clock LIT at all times, system on or system off. One of those wires has to have constant voltage in it right? Would you be able to use it to power something at all times without causing problems? |

Mine is on all the time. I extended the power leads to the rear of the computer and moved the transformer to one of the unused blank paralell ports holes. The screw slots were made for it! I just plugged it into the power bar. Done. I'm going to mod the power cord so that it is equipped with a quick disconnect just off the transformer.
The time adjustment buttons, all I did was break off the stand-offs that were originally mounting the card with a hex driver. They broke off nice and flush. I screwed them onto the button board and when I was ready to mount the card I glued the butts of the standoffs in place. I made sure I could unscrew the card if I ever had too.
Cheers! |

I turned on my computer and somehow there was this LCD display on it that started counting down from 10 seconds. I was like, "!?!?!" and I ran out of my room just before it exploded... and then there was poison gas in my living room so my lungs started burning and I had to drag myself outside of the house. |
