$300 upgrade....

Hey guys wanted to get your input on my current upgrade outlook. I've slowly built my computer up over the years from the old HP I bought back in 01'. Now the only thing that remains is the keyboard.

Anyway, current setup is a Venice 3800+ 2.4ghz, 1gb G.Skill pc3200, 250gb Sata HD, Biostar T6100Mobo, XFX 8600gts, Rosewill 500w power supply with 4 case fans.

I'm basically looking for the best bang for the buck 300 dollar upgrade. Here's what I was thinking, let me know what you'd change.

Biostar TA770 (I've been fairly happy with biostar thusfar)

G.Skill 4gb DDR2 800

5600+ Brisbane 2.9ghz Socket AM2

Total came to 296 shipped.

I figure my ram and CPU are my current bottlenecks and my primary use would be for 3-D Modeling work and some Supreme Commander on the side.

Thanks for any input you may have.

Definatly go with an Intel build now.
If you can afford an extra $100 go with this

CPU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115037
mobo - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128059
ram - same

Blazing fast CPU - supreme commander makes more use of the CPU than the GPU.

If you really cant afford the extra go for this CPU instead. Its a 45nm CPU like the E8400, though with slightly slower clock speeds and half the cache (still plenty faster than the 5600+ X2 in any case)

I definitely agree on the cpu and mobo, I have the gigabyte board mentioned and it has been a great buy. E7200 or E8400, either would be great, the only thing I would suggest is going with 1066 instead of 800 ram. You can get 4gb for $120 if you can swing it, or you can get these 2gb for $65. The reason being that in using this board, using 800 ram has held me back from o'cing as much as I would like to. But with the 2gb, and the E7200 you come out at about $300, and that will still be massively faster than the amd setup.
