HI there, Welcome to TIMO!
I have a bunch of suggestions, but I'll start with something simple. Don't shop at TigerDirect unless you plan on NOT getting the rebates back. They are horrible when it comes to getting rebates back to people. Instead, look at this site: www.newegg.com
They generally have cheaper prices without rebates, and if you don't mind rebates, then their prices really can't be beat.
Now that's out of the way, what is your budget for this PC?
You have some decent parts picked out, but there is room for improvement. I can throw together a list if you like. Normally, I go for best bang for buck. And I'm also a Overclocker, so I have a pretty good idea of what would appeal to you. |

Ok.. I'll just make a list of what I would buy. You can edit what you don't like. But again, my style is "best bang for buck". Then when you factor overclocking in on top of that, your gonna have a screaming fast PC.
Motherboard:
Really, this is the board I would normally link to: Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-X48-DS4 LGA 775 Intel X48 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards
But since you need Tigerdirect stuff, then I'll have to go with this: MSI X48C Platinum Motherboard - Intel X48, Socket 775, ATX, Audio, PCI Express 2.0, Gigabit LAN, SPDIF, Firewire, USB 2.0, eSATA, RAID at TigerDirect.com
That board will handle DDR2 and DDR3. I'd go for just a 4gig set of DDR2 for now, until the price comes down on DDR3. Really, DDR3 hasn't shown the performance increase for the money. Wait till it comes down a bit, then go for it.
CPU: I like that CPU you linked to in the OP. On 45nm core chips though, you have to be really really careful with the voltage. Don't go over 1.35v-core. 45nm cores have been experiencing "sudden death syndrome" from people using to much v-core. Just something to watch out for though.
Ram: Corsair Dual Channel XMS2 4096MB PC8500 DDR2 1066MHz Memory (2 x 2048MB) TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF at TigerDirect.com
That's a 4 gig set of some of the best OCing RAM there is. That will be plenty to handle anything you throw at it.
Power Supply: Corsair TX750W 750-Watt Power Supply - ATX, 140mm Fan, SLI-Ready, SATA-Ready CMPSU750TX at TigerDirect.com
That should be enough to handle 2x GPU's also.
Graphics cards: Visiontek Radeon HD 4870 Video Card - 512MB GDDR5, PCI Express 2.0 x16, CrossFireX Ready, (Dual Link) Dual DVI, HDTV, HDMI Support, VGA Support 900244 at TigerDirect.com
Hard drive: Western Digital Caviar SE16 640GB Hard Drive - 7200, 16MB, SATA-300, OEM WD6400AAKS at TigerDirect.com
These perform on par with Raptors, but cost half the $. Western Digital's Caviar SE16 640GB hard drive - The Tech Report - Page 1
Cooler: ZEROtherm Butterfly BTF90 Socket 775754939AM2 Copper Base Heatpipes CPU Cooler at TigerDirect.com
Tigerdirect really has a crappy choice of these. If it were me, I'd get the TRUE and 2x 120mm fans.
Those are THE best cooler there are. But Tiger doesn't carry them.
I think that's it. |
