I never knew these forums existed... My life would have been a lot easier in the past if I'd known about this site... Anyway... I've been on NewEgg for about 6 hours now reading reviews and such. Trying to put something together. I find myself going back and forth on almost everything... I want to be able to run most games now on "max settings" if possible. Don't need an OS, Keyboard, Mouse, Monitor, or Speakers. I would like a window in my tower and plenty of room to upgrade... I hope I'm not asking to much...Can someone put something together for me? I got about 800 USD to work with... Maybe 900 USD if I'm convinced... Lol... Thanks guys!

Nvidia is with their top end cards, (GTX 285 and GTX 295, maybe even the GTX 275), but for the price, ATI's are a bit better, cheaper and near many of their Geforce counter parts.
as to Intel/AMD, depends, Price wise, AMD's got the upper hand, Raw top end Performance, Intel has it with the Core i7 and X58 motherboard chipset, but that comes at a price, so it depends on whether your talking about Affordable and Best performance, or Money is no Object and best performance?

But "best bang for buck" goes to AMD/ATI right now. |

I am not sure on this, but aren't the core i5's supposed to be coming out soon? I can't find much for specifics, but what I have heard is a september release.

Aww.... I actually found 2 for sale yesterday at newegg, but it seems like they were taken down already.
The first "I5" they are releasing is only a dual core 2.66Ghz model, for $200.. So really it wouldn't be worth it yet. Now when the Quads come out then I think it something to look at. |
