    New guy modding

So I am completely new to this whole Laptop modding thing. So for starters my platform is a Dell Inspiron 600m. I am basically just looking to wake up and aged laptop and get the absolute most out of it that I possibly can. So far I have upgraded the RAM from 512MB to the max 2GB using 2 PNY PC2700 DDR 1GB memory sticks. I was quite suprised with the how well the comp took to just that. Speed increase was definitely noticeable. Now I am looing to upgrade my HD and run Ubuntu Linux. With that said here comes the questions. ( go easy on me I am new to this) The laptop currently has a 60GB Ultra ATA Hard Drive, 4200RPM. GB wise what should I be looking at? I see the ones for sale that are like 80 GB but then I see some that are 320GB. I have always assumed bigger is better so why would I opt for 80, 120 or maybe a 160 GB as opposed to a 320 GB HD? RPM wise it seems as though my limit is 5400 RPM. I am going to assume that with it being an older ATA drive that it is not capable of spinning at speeds of 7200 like a SATA drive. Thank you in advance for any help!

    Hi and welcome to TechIMO.

Im sure there are 2.5" HDD's that spin at 7200RPM (although I cannot find any ). Yes, no reason not to get a large capacity drive.
