| Need help with cpu cooler
I purchased an aftermarket cpu cooler and it fits on my motherboard real nice and looks good inside my case. Then I went to plug it in and it has a 4 pin connector and my stock cpu cooler had a 3 pin. On the box for connector type it says 4 pin pwm mode or 3 pin thermistor mode. The 3 pin part of the connector plugs into my board but does not work. The cooler itself works if I plug it into the 3 pin plug for the chassis fan so I know the cooler is good. My stock fan has a red, black and blue wire going to the plug. The new cooler has a red, black, blue and yellow wire going to the plug and the 3 pin part uses the red, black, and yellow and leaves the blue going nowhere. Anway to make this work? |

Can you just use the chasis fan header?
Did the CPU cooler header work before you got this new cooler? If so, there is no reason why it shouldn't still be working. |

| The header still works when I plug the stock cooler back in. I might have to get some kind of adapter. |

I decided to get another cooler, the other one was free after the rebate so I am not out anything. Anyways, the new heatsink and fan have a three wire plug like I need. But, another problem arises. The new fan has a red, black, and yellow wire, old fan had red, black and blue wires. The new fan works but my mobo doesn't recognize that there is a fan there. |

That shouldn't really make any difference. As long as the Heatsink is cooling properly, then that's all that really matters.
(also different manufactures use different color wire all the time, so that's nothing to worry about) |

What are your temps?
What's the specs of your system? (CPU, Motherboard, heatsink being the most prevalent) |
