| You probably think I am crazy!
Crazy, or too much time on my hands. I built a nice P4 system for my son, then he gave me back his starter machine, an AMD 450 on a Tyan Super 7 board. I was wondering what the heck am I going to do with this thing, I use it for Dos games now, has Windows 98 and is great for playing the old stuff I cannot run on XP and Vista. Well, I got another Motherboard coming, and being a disabled Veteran without steady employment, I couldnt afford a Chassis for it. so I yanked out the AMD 450 guts. to make room for the new board. Well I was bored one night and decided I was going to do something wacky so here it is, I cleaned out my old cabinet and put fabricated everything into it using an old minitower case that I cut apart for a chassis, and some misc parts that I had no other used for and buit the whole thing into the top shelf. My Son and nephew got a kick out of seeing a running computer that wasnt a computer as we know it, it was kind of educational in a way for the kids. So here is a link to the machine. If you think that is nuts, My next idea is to put a computer into a holiday popcorn tin. You know, those ones that have 3 flavors and normally get stale before it all gets eaten..... |

I dont think your crazy. I do wonder how you will handle the cabling to the Monitor/keyboard/mouse though.

That's pretty cool. You need to drill a few holes & mount fans in the back of the cabinet. Then it can run for extended periods with the cabinet doors shut. lol
BTW, you can rotate pics within the photobucket interface.
Speaking of crazy mods. Here's my new CPU cooler - unmodded at this point.

Going to a phase setup? How much does something like that cost to move to? I've always been curious.. |

It is technically a phase-change setup, because there is a compressor using refrigerant. But what is normally called phase is direct expansion config (the evaporator is mounted to the CPU). I'm just building a chiller with a water loop. I'm targeting 0*C, using an antifreeze/water blend.
I intercepted the water fountain on its way to the trash & fixed the water leak - which was the reason it was replaced. They are fairly expensive to buy. Doing some research I've seen a cheaper option used, but I'm not sure how well it will do with a modern quad-core. Some of those dispensers use a peltier, so you need to be sure it is a true refrigeration model. |

i thought so, i recognised the grille in the foreground of the HDD and PSU pic, and the I/O panel looked familiar, had a few of them pavilion towers in the past and your right there is no room in them at all lol but to be fair those sort of towers are aimed at the user only market if you see what i mean |
