Building a new computer, new help on a few things!
I am planning to use this computer for moderate gaming for games such as Modern Warfare and the like. I am on a budget of ~1200 dollars, but I want to spend roughly ~1000 so that I can use the excess 200 bucks for other things
I am also trying to make thing investment worthwhile, as in 4+ years.
Also, I plan to upgrade this computer with another graphics card doing CrossFire or SLI depending on the graphics card I get.
Well here are the parts that i plan to order:
Do you have any suggestions on a graphics card that is similar in price than my current one?Code:Sony Optiarc 24X DVD/CD Rewritable Drive Black SATA Model AD-7240S-0B - OEM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827118030 NZXT LEXA S LEXS - 001BK Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146060 Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST31000528AS 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148433 SCEPTRE X226W-1920 Black 21.5" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824112017 GIGABYTE GA-MA790GPT-UD3H AM3 AMD 790GX HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128398 XFX HD-477A-YDFC Radeon HD 4770 512MB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150369 Tuniq Potency PSU-POT650-BK 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817611007 Nippon Labs Premium 3 ft. I'm not sure if my power supply will be adequate for CrossFire or SLI. Is it adequate?
I may even OC my graphics card or my cpu. Is it enough?Last edited by itzrobz; November 14th, 2009 at 03:32 PM.

Welcome to TechIMO.

If you want to future proof it for 4+ years atleast pick up a modern gpu, they are normaly outdated every 6 months or so. A 5770 for example.
I would definately look into a caviar black HDD (500, 640 or 750gb ver).
As to PSU a good quality 600W unit will run 5770 Xfire...
With a budget of $1000 you could look into i5/i7 system.I7 920 @ 4.2Ghz/6GB//GTX480 SLI/M4 64 GB + 1.5 TB + 2x 640 GB/Corsair TX950/ASUS blu-ray/ASUS P6X58D-E + X-Fi /LC PCK62

First things, first - your mobo supports only DDR3 RAM and you selected DDR2 that ain't gonna work.
2nd, forget about SLI def. forget about doing it with a 4770, a single high end card will out perform and two low end cards any day. I'm not sure where your overall build cost is now compared to your budget but spend the extra cash and get a better card now, you won't be disappointed.
3rd a Tuniq PSU may or may not be ok - but you'd be much better off going with something you know performs well. For the same price or less you can get a corsair or OCZ and you'd know what you are getting.

Thanks! I feel at home already!
The caviar black HDD does not have the issue that the caviar green, large number load/unload cycles has correct?
From what I can tell, an i5 system would make this system, which is already at $940, more expensive, no? Swapping the AMD motherboard and the AMD for an Intel board and an i5 costs more doesn't it?
I apologize for the RAM, it seems that slipped my eye!

@RicheemxX
So, would you recommend getting a motherboard with one PCI-e 2.0 x16 rather than two x16 slots?

Alright, so I decided to go for the 5770 and possibly Xfire in the future or just replace it depending which is a viable option at that point.
You say 600 W PSU will run 5770 Xfire, does that mean it will run a WD Caviar Black 750gb, my mother board and such?
I am also checking out the i5 alternative to see which one is better vs price.Last edited by itzrobz; November 14th, 2009 at 06:04 PM.
