$700-$750 budget

Hi everyone:

I posted a thread some days ago with an idea of a build.. Aaron commented on it and he thought it was kind of ok.
But, I checked some of his posts and I've seen him recommending other CPUs with people who ask him and have almost the same needs than me.

I'm wondering what would any of you do with a $700-750 budget, just for the tower and the hardware inside it..no need of monitor or OS. Intel or AMD, anything goes. The rig would be used for some playing, video&audio encoding and a little photo modification. An important factor is that I'd like it to last 3 years, more or less..and I don't discard making updates (RAM, better GPU..I guess) in 1 or 2 years.

Hope someone will be able to help..these posts have been made on a phone..and I'm planning to buy it a little later today or tomorrow..I've been a while without a pc and..I think I can't stand it anymore =]

But I remember you recommending the PII 945..saying it's not really a big difference

just wondered if maybe an i5 build was possible with that budget..and if performance would be better =]
