Hey everyone, haven't posted here in a long time but i need some help !
-- I am looking at building a new gaming rig for my friend for his birthday (1000$ budget) and I was wondering if I could have some help from you guys making a parts list. Here is what is needed and not needed: NEEDED:
-As stated above this will be a heavy gaming rig so preferably a powerful GPU (games played include COD, WoW, Farcry, HoN // all on high settings have a real nice monitor and likes everything to be crisp)
-Maybe a small solid state drive for OS and some games (small because of budget)
-I like AMD builds (mainly because its just a little cheaper)
-I really like to keep everything cool (good air flow case, but cool looking. He has an old alien ware tower now so i dont want to downgrade him to something boring looking)
-Maybe a Caviar HDD nothing too fancy NOTNEEDED :
-Speakers
-Monitor
-Mouse
-Keyboard
-OS
Any help/questions would be greatly appreciated/answered

Heya, long time no see!
I'll post a intel build shortly. IMO, you'd be MUCH better off getting an I5 system. They are pretty fast, and fairly cheap considering how new they are.
Let me get coffee made and cleaned up, and I'll be back in here posting. |

also will probably need a 2.5" drive adapter to mount the SSD in one of the 3.5" bays.
| That case comes with one.

Okies, here's what I would build if I had 1k to spend. I should note that most all of these prices can be beat if you have a micro center local. They have great deals on CPU/Mobo/RAM, so you might check there before you order from egg. Newegg.com - Intel Core i5-750 Lynnfield 2.66GHz 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops
$199 Newegg.com - MSI P55-GD55 LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards
$130 Newegg.com - OCZ Obsidian 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model OCZ3OB1600LV4GK - Desktop Memory
$99 ($79 after MIR) Newegg.com - CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply - Power Supplies
$99 ($79 after MIR) Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar Black WD7501AALS 750GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive -Bare Drive
$80 Newegg.com - VisionTek 900297 Radeon HD 5850 (Cypress Pro) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card w/ATI Eyefinity - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards
$289 Newegg.com - LIAN LI Lancool PC-K58W Black 0.8 mm SECC, Plastic + Mesh ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Computer Cases
$89 (free shipping) Newegg.com - SAMSUNG Black 22X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA CD/DVD Burner - CD / DVD Burners
$20
---------------------------------------------------------------
Total: $1008.93
So I was 8 over, that's not bad. But this PC would MAX ANY game, even crysis in 1080 res with no issues. The CPU can easily be clocked to 3.8Ghz or better. Really that's a damn fast system all together.
I didn't add a SSD mainly because, 1. in this budget it's almost impossible to fit one in, and 2 I don't think they are worth it yet. Even if you got a small 30Gb SSD, your OS would take up at least half of that, so you'd maybe have room for 3-4games, and then it would be full. If your gonna do ssd then you need a backup LARGE HDD, and then maybe you can pull it off.
I just don't see it as necessary, especially when your building a gaming system on this budget. The money can be used in other places that would show greater improvement then a SSD. (like the GPU in my list)

I'm liking that build but would u go with the vision tek over the XFX ?
And in the future when SSD prices go down and quality goes up maybe then he can get one. |

XFX has a better warranty, so I guess them. Visiontek was just the cheapest "name brand" I trusted. |
