First Time PC Builder (Gaming PC)
I'm 16 years old, and have always been a big fan of computers. Today is my first post here and I have a few questions regarding building a new Desktop. I have a really basic understanding of how a desktop works but I've come to the point where my old laptop that a neighbor gave me is starting to not cut it for today's games. I'm really impressed by BattleField Bad Company 2, and I want to build a computer off of Newegg but I have no idea where to start. I think I've heard Intel is better than AMD, but I wouldn't know what motherboard brand to begin looking at, let alone what PSU would work best.
My goal for this PC is to be able to run BFBC2 (BattleField Bad Company) at high to full specs, with at least 60 FPS in intense graphics situations, and at 120 FPS+ in low intensity graphics situations. But if at all possible I /never/ ever want my FPS dropping below 45ish. I'm not 100% positive what my budget will be, but I'd imagine somewhere between $1000-$1500, although I'm slightly flexible around that.
I'd prefer to be able to run 7 Ultimate, 64 bit, unless there's a better option for my desired gaming power/budget. And as for RAM, DDR3 would be my preference because it's better than DDR2 and will not be outdated as fast, or by greater margin that DDR2. Thanks for all your help in advance, here are the minimum and reccomended specs for BFBC2:
Minimum Frostbite PC Specifications for BFBC2.- Processor: Core 2 Duo @ 2.0GHz
- Main memory: 2GB
- Graphics card: GeForce 7800 GT / ATI X1900
- Graphics memory: 256MB
- OS: Windows XP
- Free HDD space:
- 15GB for Digital Version, 10GB for Disc Version (BFBC2)
- Processor: Quadcore
- Main memory: 2GB
- Graphics card: GeForce GTX 260
- Graphics memory: 512MB
- OS: Windows Vista or Windows 7
- Free HDD space:
- 15GB for Digital Version, 10GB for Disc Version (BFBC2)
Also, one last thing, would this PC benefit from a NIC card? Or SLI dual video cards? Or even a sound card instead? Thanks again.
And any recommendations for an HD LCD monitor please too.Last edited by Insanal; March 21st, 2010 at 05:17 PM.

Well with that budget you are definitely looking at an Intel based System...
1156 Socket is the best bang for buck, and at least an ATI 5870 video card...
SLI is a waste of money, and generally NIC cards and sound cards are also a waste of money unless they serve a specific function you cant get from the built-in versions.
