Building a machine for image processing
Hi,
I'm planning to get a new machine for my wife. My current plan is to get the following:
Core 2 Quad Q9505
2GB Kingston DDR3 1333 PC10666
2GB Kingston DDR3 1333 PC10666
MSI N250GTS (Twin Frozr)
1TB Western Digital SATA HDD
1TB Western Digital SATA HDD
Also plan to put these existing drive/device in this new machine also if possible:
1TB Western Digital HDD
500GB Western Digital SATA HDD
80GB Western Digital IDE HDD
80GB Western Digital IDE HDD
Please recommend/advise on:
1) Whether my motherboard is selection able to support the graphic card & processor // prefer MSI
2) Casing that can fit all my HDD
3) Power supply
4) External casing for HDD // in case cannot fit all HDD in the machine casing
5) Price
What she currently have:
1) 21/22 inch DELL Monitor
2) 17 inch Samsung Monitor
3) External Lite-on DVD-RW // always connected
4) Wacom Bamboo Fun // always connected
5) Canon MP145 & LBP2900 Printer // both printer always connected
The machine will be use mainly for:
1) Heavy Image processing (photoshop/lightroom)
2) Light video processing (Picasa/Adobe Premiere)
3) Gaming (Warcraft, Need for Speed, Counter Strike)
4) Usual stuff (MS Office, Internet, etc.)
Note:
1) Has a lot of photographic/video files from camera/scans/camcorder
2) Currently using XP Pro SP3, will switch to Seven Ultimate in the future
3) Potentially will upgrade the RAM in the future
4) Low probablility in upgrading the CPU in the future
5) Budget is not an issue but not too expensive (preferably below 1.5k/2k)
Note: The price is in my Malaysian Ringgit. Not sure if I need to convert to USD?
All advise/help in this matter is highly appreciated. Please inform me if more information is needed. Thanks in advanced.
Regards,

Yes I got that part Shy. Malaysia is a pretty broad paint of the old geographical brush and depending on where they shop/are allowed to shop $450 - $750 usd might not go very far. Might be better off trying to sneak in this higher end hardware as a complete system.
map, malaysia - Google Maps
If they could only sneak on over to the Philippines. Shy, parts of Malaysia are governed with an iron fist. Freedom is expressed in many forms and something many take for granted here in the US along with a solid powergrid.
One thing the poster left out of his build was a UPS. Something I would have in half the shitpots I have traveled to.
No offense WeatherMan! Brownouts certainly happen here to a lesser extent. I personally have not had one in 20 years. We enjoy life here in the Midwest don't we Shy

yep.
Wasn't as familiar with Malaysia, all I knew is it was a Single Country, unaware of how fractured the country is.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

36 novels by Chas Dickens, starting with the Old Curiosity Shop. I've only read one or two over the years, and I just got this bug to do it all at once.
