First Build/Mods - help me out?
Ok so Im currently running a
Compaq Presario SR1920nx
Ditched the stock PSU for a 400W
Installed a Nvidia 7900 GS card and 4GB of Kingston DDR RAM
also a Wireless G Dlink card
as for the rest its all here
Hewlett Packard Compaq Presario SR1920NX (882780507135) PC Desktop - Product details and features - DealTime
So... Heres my situation
I'm looking to upgrade.
I want something thats going to play some games at decent settings; nothing crazy like crysis, bfbc2 or anything but Id like to play FFXIV Starcraft 2 Diablo 3 etc at High Settings
my budget is 450 dollars and I'm really not sure where to start.
Id like it to also be slightly quick at video editing.
So far Ive basically been looking at
Asus M4N78 PRO Motherboard & AMD Phenom X4 9850 Quad Core Processor HD9850XAJ4BG
Corsair XMS2 4GB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz x2
then plan on reusing what i can out of the old one.
(this is my first kind of real mods to my comp so if im babbling like an idiot please go ahead and correct me where possible)
anyways thanks for your help guys any suggestions advice and or constructive feedback you can give is appreciated.

If it were me I'd throw it on Craigslist and put that toward a new build...
Your just asking to run into issues using that poorly ventilated small case and recycling old parts...
You can build a very good PC for in the $600 to $700 range...
You re-use that case and PSU and you WILL run into upgrade issues at some point...
You will also regret the cooling options that will plague that case..

What 400W PSU did you get?
I usually go with a decent budget case with decent airflow, and free shipping if at all possible...
Its the only thing that has no performance value beyond airflow and space...
Newegg.com - RAIDMAX Hurricane ATX-248WB Black SECC ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Computer Cases
If nothing else pull the mobo, CPU and memory to sell on Craigslist tp beef up that budget...Last edited by JPMiller; April 3rd, 2010 at 09:27 PM.

Well thats at least a decent PSU, double 18A +12's
Unfortunately with that budget your probably not looking at an 1156 based setup, but an AMD instead...

Oh, well if your NOT getting a new video card, then the best bang for buck is this,,,
Newegg.com - Open Box: MSI P55-CD53 LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard
Newegg.com - Intel Core i5-750 Lynnfield 2.66GHz 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops
Newegg.com - CORSAIR XMS3 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 - Desktop Memory
Newegg.com - Rosewill Blackbone Black Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Computer Cases
Which puts you right at your budget, but should kick the crud out of that other list

but why would you want to stick with that 7900. it was fast, but nowadays people woulnt even consider it fit for low end anymore. I sold one yesterday for $15
i5 3750 | ASUS P75 | GTX560Ti | 8gb Corsair Vengence
PII 720BE X3 @ 3.7Ghz | Gigabyte 790GX | HD6850 | 8gb OCZ Reper
