Home Built System Not Working.
I just bought a full system from Tigerdirect.com
Coolermaster CM690 Nvidia Edition
XFX X58i Extreme Edition Mobo
Intel Core i7 920 CPU
XFX Geforce GTS 250 Core Edition 1gb DDR3
Corsair Tri Channel DDR3 6gb RAM
ULTRA 750watt PSU
ULTRA ChillTEC Silver CPU Cooler
WD 1tb HD
Got it all put together and... NO VIDEO AT ALL...
it turns on and lights up all pretty - when I unplug the monitor from the DVI port it does the RGB self test and when I plug it back into the DVI port it goes into power save mode like its getting a signal but cant display it for some reason.
Yes I connected the 6 pin power to the Vid Card
Moved to another PCIe 2.0 slot still nothing
Rechecked all the connections and tried both DVI ports and the Svid port Still nothing.
I do not have an OS installed yet as I cannot get the computer to show a load up screen or DOS\BIOS whatever you want to call it.
Not sure if it is the Vid Card or Possibly the Mobo.
Mobo does not have integrated graphics and requires a vid card.

Try mixing up the RAM first.... Try it in different slots also... Had a problem with an x58 ASUS board.... turns out it doesnt like memory in slots 1,3,5 (unless you fill em all up).

Got it... Apparently the X58i mobo doesnt like 6gigs of Tri Channel. you have to use one in the black #1 slot. Grr...
Tried it with 4gigs and its working fine. guess ill have to switch back to a 32 bit os. oh well. Thanks everyone.Last edited by Sularus; April 11th, 2010 at 03:29 PM.

You will be better off using 64bit OS considering your GPU has 1gb of Memory also... Did you try the sticks in slot 2,4,6? If it does not work with all three sticks then its deffective and should be returned....

Your call, just seems silly to me spending all that money on a 1366 system and you are not even using tri-channel...... I doubt its a mobo problem or RAM problem... Just got to get the configuration right.

True... Although all the Forums ive come across mentioning this issue all say that the X58i Mobo cannot support 6gigs of Tri Channel Ram. So im not sure. Im gonna mess around with it some more and see what happens. I can always dual boot as well for my older games... most of my older games dont like win 7 ultimate 64bit.
Make that doesnt like windows 7 period lol. oh well guess ill dual boot win 7 ultimate 64bit and XP 32bit.Last edited by Sularus; April 11th, 2010 at 04:23 PM.

Hmm... It does support 6gbs of Tri Channel just not in the Green Slots 2,4,6 as stated in the booklet that comes with it. You have to put them in the Black Slots 1,3,5 and it doesnt matter how many you have or if they are 2gb or 1gb It just takes it a min for the screen to come on.
Thanks Again for the Help. I'll pass this little bit of knowledge on to XFX

Are you color blind by chance? Green is 1, 3, 5 and Black was 2, 4, 6 or did I pull the wrong manual?
Motherboards - X-Series - X58i
Supports up to 12 GB of DDR3-1333 Memory
Where would you get that the x58 does not support triple channel? Quit going there for advice! Like any source, consider it.
Install 1 stick of ram in your 1st dimm slot
Enter Bios - Set your dimm voltage to 1.65, set your ram timings to the proper manufacturer spec, set frequency to 1033
Test! Test! Test!
Repeat! Repeat! Repeat!
Prime96! Prime95! Prime95!
It sucks but just because they say hand tested you can't always believe them although Corsair is an exception.
Testing methodology is inconsistent with your symptoms even performing multiple passes in memtest. Technically the ram might not be bad it just does not perform to advertised specification such as my 1st set of ocz gold triple ch on my new i7920 build. It refused to go past 1430 something and my only trusty testing methodology was prime95.
Here is a clue, a Windows 7 64 bit install on your specs should have completed in under 30 minutes if your hardware was behaving correctly. How long did expanding the files off dvd take
I verified this on 2 separate chipsets with Windows 7 64 bit. It is a scoundrel if your system is not properly configured or has bad/misconfigured ram.
