    Hi Dunlop,

    Welcome to TechIMO.

What happened when you tried installing the Radeon 9200? Hard to provide much help if we can't figure out what's wrong.

Just has black screen after hardware is installed. Drivers are installed. It doesnt even sound like it even boots up all the way, after the new card is in. I can see the fan spinning so i know it has power.

My old card i would have to plug the power cord into it. This new one doesnt even have an option to plug power into ???????

It doesn't surprise me the 9200 has no power plug, it is half the card as the 9800, it doesn't need one.

At this point, I would be asking, did the first card really go bad, and is the second card really good?
Do you have another AGP computer you can test them in?
When I didn't have extra parts, the local computer shop would test things like video cards, for me.

I have vertical lines around my mouse, and lines threw about just everything else on the screen. I reinstalled my old card drivers with no avail. I even updated them and still lines everywhere. Its just crazy at start up.

Well since you said the 9200 is half the card, what do you recommend?
I was looking at this one.
    ATI Radeon 9800 PRO 128MB AGP 8X 109A07500 Graphic Card - eBay (item 160430840506 end time May-13-10 13:02:07 PDT)

Also whats a good psu. My fan on mine keeps freaking out and buzzing sometimes.

If you suggest another card that requires me upgrading my psu thats fine. I have to stick something to stop the fan, sometimes so it doesnt freak.

    Thanks all

It looks like the same card, if they were both 9800PROs.
The first one was worded funny, so I wasn't sure if it was a pro,

You could probably go a little better, before that CPU would bottleneck.
I have a HD3850 on a similar AMD system (3000)and it is bottlenecked by the CPU.

If you don't game, a 9800pro is a top card for that system

PassMark Software - Video Card Benchmark Charts

I like Corsair to be safe.
The 400Watt will handle that 9800PRO, If you were to go for a more demanding card like the HD3850 the 450watt will handle that easily.

The 7800 GS should be better than the 9800 Pro, and should still not bottleneck that system

It is a good idea to use a driver cleaner when going from ATI to Nvidia.

Well just ordered a new ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, for $31.90

Just sold the 9200 for 20bucks

Took that money and bought one more gig of ram, now im maxed out at 2 gigs. Chose Elpida, cost me 27.88.

There is a guy that has a 400w Sealthxstream for 40 dollars, is it worth it?

    Thanks

Also how do i set up my avatar on here???

According to Dell's website forum. One thing to look out for is not to buy a video card for the 4600 with more than 256MB of RAM.

Thanks for the heads up.... The card i ordered has 128MB. What would you recommend for a good 256mb AGP card?

Well, back in '05 I stuck in a 6600GT. It performed well. I played F.E.A.R in low-med quality and COD4 on it pretty well. But... you can find a 7600GT or 7600GS with 256MB which is far more superior. The GT would be better. Make sure it's AGP. Good luck!

k... i just got the new/used graphics card installed, still am having issues.

I still have some horizontal lines, however if i restart my computer it will sometimes start with no problems at all. At start up it doesnt have any weird lines like it did before.

I did reinstall the drivers for the card, and made sure it was for the 'pro' version!!!

I dont know what to do again.

This is a pic of what my old start up looked like. Everything is perfect now!!

What are the specs, on the power supply you are using
    Brand?
12Volt rail amps, all of them, if more than 1 rail.

I do not know. I want to say 240w, from dell. Everything is pretty much stock, i did also just upgrade my ram to 2gigs. My old card was one of the first gens.. it was still the 9800 pro as well.

I dont care if i have to go in and tell you off the label on my psu, but if there is another way, just tell me how and i will get back to you.

    Can speccy tell you?????
    Thanks

Sometimes specs can give us a hint.

My 9700Pro ran on a 400watt Allies with 17 amps on the 12Volt, and it ran the power supply hot, because it was a cheap power supply and/or it was overloaded.

Dell generally has very good power supplies, but are just big enough for the system they come in, so they are always small.

Did the computer originally come with a 9800Pro??
