PSU Choice
I might have the chance to buy the last two items i need (motherboard and PSU) trouble is the PSU I wanted is out of stock EVERYWHERE!
I was going to get the OCZ Z series 650w PSU but I can't find it instock at the moment.
Do you guys know if its no longer being made and stocked or is it just that popular and temp sold out?
I want to have the option of adding another 5850 graphics card to my rig should i want it and was told this pack had enough juice for it. Is there any other reliable packs I could get instead?(a link to any suggested packs would be great)
My build:
Windows 7 pro 64-bit
Power: ocz z series 650w
CPU: phenom x4 955 (mbox edition)
HDD: 2x 500gb sata hdd
Case: antec 300 case + 2 fans
Graphics: 5850 graphics
Motherboard: asus m4a79xtd evo motherboard
RAM: Kingston 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz i5 Memory Kit CL9 1.5V
Optical: sata dvd drive
thanks for any help

Here is a list from New Egg of power supplies between 600 and 700 watts. (4 pages)
These are the ones to look at.
OCZ
Corsair
Silverstone
Enermax
Antec
Cooler Master
Seasonic
Thermaltake
My personal favorites are Enermax and Corsair.

i've tried having a look for myself and i've ended up confusing myself worse (as always lol)
am i right in thinking that to run two 5850's i'll need a psu with 4x 6pin pcie connectors? or am i really confused?

You would need 2 of these:

yep, you'll need 4 6 pin connectors in all.
for 2 5850's.
here's my recommendation for a PSU though, might be cheaper at some other sources, over in UK, OCUK is one of the few UK sites I'm Familiar with, there's also Nova Something or other, I keep forgetting their name, but anyways
Corsair TX 750W ATX SLI Compliant Power Supply (CMPSU-750TXUK) [CMPSU-750TXUK] Power Supplies Corsair
same one I have, has 4 8 pin connectors, actually their 6+2 pin connectors, but has more than enough power to run 2 5850's.
good solid unit too.
everything in my sig below is running on it right now.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

I was recommended this Corsair 650W TX Series PSU - 120mm Fan, 80.. | Ebuyer.com on another site.
Do you think it'll have enough juice to run the rig? even with another 5850 added when i can?
i dont really have the cash to get the 750w so if thats the only option i'll have to wait another few months :s

The entire system only draws469 watts with 2 -5850s, on an average system.
Power Consumption And Noise : Radeon HD 5850: Knocking Down GTX 295 In CrossFire
That is 39 amps if it was all 12v, and it isn't, because some of that is 5v and 3.3v
So the draw on the 12v rail will be less than 39 amps for two cards
469 watts/12volts= 39amps
The Corsair 650 can put out 52 amps on the 12v rail, so I would say it is plenty big enough.
Unless you have an extraordinary system with 6 hard drives, RAID, and more, it is more than enough.
It looks like Shyguy has 5 hard drives.

Used to be 6

5 Hard drives, and 2 DVD Burners
no, but the 650TX will be fine, just that it only has two 6+2 pin connectors, only enough for one card, which means you'll need 2 of those Dual 6 pin adapters nick linked to above, hooked to your PSU, which means at least FOUR standard 4 pin Molex connections will be used for the 2nd card... or you can divvy them up, one PSU plug on each card, and one adapter for each card.
but it only leaves 6 standard 4 pin connections for other devices or fans in your System.
there are SATA power adapters that convert SATA power connectors to standard 4 pin connectors, but thats only if you need the extra 4 pin connectors.
you can buy splitter adapters too, turning a single 4 pin into two or 3 or whatever 4 pins, for use with fans.
but before long your PC is starting to fill with ugly cluttering adapter cables.
add in the price of all the adapters, and you might as well of spent on the slightly more expensive HX650 model with 4 dedicated PCIE connectors.

otherwise, the 650TX will do fine for your needs, only reason I really suggested the 750 was because I knew it had the 4 connectors needed, and room to spare for power.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

tyvm guys you have been a great help! i'll go for the tx i think since the hx is £20 over budget(which is already tight) and you can't see into the case lol
the tx has 8 molex connectors and my case only needs about 5 without the other 5850 so i should be good.
thanks again, i hate having to make decisions on something like this, it could so easily go wrong

FSP Everest 800W PSU - 80plus Bronze 9x SATA 4x PCI-E | Ebuyer.com

Either would be more than sufficient and under budget
