    upgrading to the future

    Hi,
I just pulled out my old DELL dimension e510 out of the closet the other day in hopes of upgrading it to a gaming computer. I know that it is impossible to get very far with this dell case and mobo. My hope is to get a very nice graphics card and hard drive then save up the money to get a brand new atx case and board and swap what I can over. Ive seen on other posts that I will have to make sure it will physically fit in my mother board, but other than that what are my limitations on a video card that can go into this old mobo. Currently in there is a radeon x600 256mb Hypermemory. I hate to spend the 60 bucks on dell's recommended video card upgrade if I will have to upgrade again after dumping a lot on a new setup. Any information and tips are greatly appreciated. Thanks

Does this look like the specs on the system you have?

    Documentation

If so to be totally honest you'd be much better off saving up and upgrading the entire system at once rather than trying to add a few parts here and there/

Dells are not known for the kind of cases you want for a gaming computer, either.

    No room, and poor cooling.

They'll also need to list the ACTUAL specs of their PC before we can make any sort of recommendations on upgrades, since we're not psychic.

Need to make sure we know what kind of CPU is in there (exact specs), to recommend a GPU to Pair up with it (and not create a bottleneck), Amount of RAM in the system, Speed of the RAM, Operating System (32 or 64 bit)

What games are intended to play on this system?

basically the original poster is lacking needed info in original post for recommendations from us.

If they can confirm Rich's Reply, thats a start, but still would need to know more specifics on what is actually running in the system, not just the current Video card.

sorry about the lack of info. RicheemxX is correct. I have an intel pentium 4 3.20ghz cpu and 305w psu (am going to upgrade to a 450w before upgrading anything else) and 3 gigs of ddr2 ram, I have 1 PCIe X16 and X1 and 2 PCI slots.

Dell recomends the geforce gt220 upgrade but a lot of people that have done so say it wasn't worth it.

I was looking at the geforce gts 450 but not to sure on the room yet as its a double wide. If I forgot anything else you might need to know please let me know
