Yupper, it's still running ...
But I don't have much use for it ... it's only 300 megs ..... but that's not the point

No I guess it's all about looking cool.
And it does it well. Now stick some lighting inside the harddrive too. Heheheh.

Hehe, that would be cool .. but I guess it would be kinda hard to do ...... or maybe not .. hmm is worth thinking about ... for my next harddrive that is

(These are the times I'm happy that I never threw those old harddrives away like my wife and mom told me to)

Dosen't need to be big. As long as it looks cool. Besides, I would have a hard time doing that to a big drive.

ALOHA
Of course if you used fat 16 and drive space 3 with w98se you could create 3 2GB partitions[6g total]!!
I have a old Toshiba laptop with about 760MB.After installing w98se there wasn't enough space to do anything~
So I setup 3 2GB drives using drive space 3 and left the system files uncompressed for max speed if you can call a 100 p1 speedy and I have all the file space I need.
I ran scandisc a couple times full to check out any problems~
1st run it corrected I forget what.
2nd run everthing was fine
Its been running fine for over a year like that with no lost files or problems~Very Cool DriveSpace3!!!
Very Cool See-through Drive I gotta get me one!!

im planning a similar mod except on my 13Gig drive.....a bit more risky but I gutted it out of a machine someone was throwing away anyways so no huge loss if i kill it

So my question is, what did you use for the window material? Did you use hard(sih) plastic? Or just thin lexan/acryllic?

this link appeared in a recent thread -- just take a look at that hard drive! (looks like glass and silicone)
(better if you have broadband: there's a lot of images here)

A friend of mine argues with me that if you pull the cover off a HDD it will not work again. I tried to tell him I had pulled the cover off a 1 gig I had given him he was using but he didn't believe me I guess. I'll show him this thread

It would work if you kept the HD platter absolutely clean. Even a dust speck would destroy the drive. So I guess if you kept cleanroom-like conditions around you while you worked on it, it would work. Some people use plastic ziplock bags to house the exposed HD while they mod the casing.
