    Is this a good case?

I am on a really tight budget, and i was thinking about getting a cheiftec server

    cheiftec

    or this case

    this case

The second one is much cheaper, but does anyone have a case like this, is it good? Since there are places for 7 fans, this would be a cool (temerature wise) case, right? How about that power supply? is it crap? Would this be powerful enough? i wanted to add 1 maybe to cold cath lights in there.

I have the Cheiftech case and and I really like it. Mine is silver and I didn't pay anywhere near that much .. but I really do like the case. Very sleek and lots of room.

I think any case / PSU combo for $50 pretty much sucks by definition. I like svc.com so I am not knocking them but to a large degree you get what you pay for.

Here is a very well reviewed case that is similar to the Chieftec, without power supply, for $89 plus $9 shipping.

    http://www.modthebox.com/review152_1.html

Then, I would get the Fortron PSU at Directron for $27 plus $6 shipping. The Fortron did very, very well at the review at Tom's Hardware.

    http://www.directron.com/fsp30060atv.html

This one has a bit more juice and is $11 more expensive:

    http://www.directron.com/fsp35060bn.html

The total price for the case/PSU is about the same price as your Chieftec choice and the power supply is a little bit smaller but the Fortron power throughput is very honestly advertised unlike many other choices.

    That's my 2 cents worth.

    This is what I have....

I got my case from directron here (a chieftec matrix):
    http://www.directron.com/mx01sl.html

and this power supply from newegg:
    http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...82E16817154013

total for the whole package is less than $90.00 and it kicks butt. Have it filled with all the case fans and my case temps are 29c and my cpu (with a volcano 9 and artic silver 3) are at 31c idle and 33c under load

If ordering from directron make sure to use cupon code "big5summer" for $5 off and return order's get a % of of what the total of your last order was. If you order from them I hope you are in no hurry as I have placed many orders with them and they have been dead slow everytime and don't pay for nextday air it's a waist of $$ as it still takes them a day or two to get it out and next day turns into 3days by the time they ship it. They do have good items and a good RMA though.

ok, this doesnt have anything to do with this thread, but when I accessed ShawShank62's "this case" link, my computer detected a virus called Backdoor.IRC.Zscrew. It is now quarentined.

thats weird, i dont have that problem. this is the link page.

    http://www.svc.com/diamsilcas.html

Did you try running spybot and adaware? Maybe something on your system that is screwing with your browsing. I totally assure you, I did not put a virus on that link.

I have the 3 revision of the Enermax you said with 8 fan slots. Mine looks like a Radiation symbol but came with a 400 WAtt PSU. The Neon light cuts the watts by 50 (to be safe with me) and the lgith on the power switch doesnt power on unless you got the correct mobo connectors. Mine flickers with the hard drive light for some reason and doesnt with a standard case. This case is good but the power supply will have a hard time sucking air out the top unless you have a few fans sucking in. Just to let you know. L&C psu's are ok but I would upgrade to a more reliable PSU from newegg.. ANTEC quiet series kick butt. I am thinking about upgrading to one of those.

Also forgot to add that if it cant (the PSU) pull air out in that case then the bearings will prematurely fail.

I just bought the Chieftek and love it. It is roomy and it looks great. It is light for a case that size, but this is comparing it to steel cases, since I've never had an aluminum case before. I have modified mine by painting the inside, installing handles and cutting a blow-hole. The power supply is not the best, but it is 420W and is running my secondary system without problems.

You can get this case cheaper at So-Trickcomputers.com here: http://www.so-trickcomputers.com/Mer...tegory_Code=C2 $122 shipped and shipping is at cost. This is where I bought my case.

Personally, I didn't like the design of the other case you listed, so I went with the Chieftek b/c of looks and because I wanted a door to cover my beige CD drives.

i found the cheiftec/chenming (samething pretty much) for 50 bucks, and smurf showed me a nice psu for 33 bucks, so that brings my total to 83. Add about 25 for all shipping, comes to about 110. Not bad. Thx for the help guys.

Also, I have biege drives also, but i was looking today at the drives and it looked like your could take that white cover off. Is there anywhere that sells different colored plates for cd-roms?

just take them off and paint them...that's the cheapest / easy way to get them the color that you need them. I do it all the time. A couple of coats of good quality automotive paint or regular spray paint work very well.

The one I linked to above comes with a 420W Turbolink PSU which has LED fans in it and it also comes with 4 LED fans. The fans themselves, if bought at retail cost $10-14 each. The PSU is not a great one, but...

I really like the case daveleau listes. I looked at that case before but decided to spend the money I had at the time on a vid card instead. That case is at the top of my want list now though!
