| My new rig: Cheiftec case mod (lots of pics)
I recently bought some new parts to build a new rig. Here are the system specs:
AMD Athlon 2100+ T-BredB
2 sticks PC2100 512MB Crucial (1 GB RAM)
ECS K7S5A w/ CHEEPO BIOS (onboard sound and LAN)
Thermalright SLK 800 w/ Enermax adjustable 80mm fan
Abit Siluro Ti4200 64MB OTES cooling w/ TV out
WinFast 2000 XP TV card
2 60GB Maxtors (one just failed )
Toshiba 16x DVD
Lite On 16x/10x/40x
4 tri-led 80mm case fans
1 92 mm case fan
1 80 mm case fan blowing over hdds
Enermax 350 W PSU SVC 12" blue dual inverter cold cathode light with extra light attached. (one light is next to the two rear fans and one is behind the PSU to shine from the top and down behind the mobo to light the future window in the back.)
This is the case I bought from so-trick computers.
This is it fresh out of the box. I plan to add handles, paint the inside, install lights, cut a blow hole and cut a back window.
The case disassembled for painting.
I laid down a scrap piece of plywood on my deck and began painting. I covered the black parts of the case to keep from over-spraying. Masking tape and paper worked well.
After painting. I did not paint the inside of the windowed panel because it would be too difficult and it would not be seen.
The planned window for the back panel. I haven't started this yet.
Inside the case after all was dry and after installation.
Hiding the cables. I got this idea from Iddiguns' site. I got a long wire conduit and cut it with my Dremel. It was originally about 4 feet long, but they did not have short pieces. They are self adhesive and worked well.
Conitnued below.... |

The Blowhole. This did not turn out as clean as I wanted. I cut this with a Dremel and the noise was intense. Since I was on my deck on a Saturday afternoon, I felt a little rushed to lighten the noise for my neighbors. I used a grinder to fix the biggest errors, but the moral of the story is to take your time. It isn't TOO bad, but I wanted it to be cleaner. This is a 92mm fan blowing out.
Ready to boot up. This shows my 3GB Maxtor, which I replaced with another 60GB from another machine I scrapped (PII 266). The 60GB drive here is now dead.
The case with lights. I got these a day after the first bootup.
Room lights off.

Thanks. the pics seem to show fan uneven paint job, but it is a pretty even and thorough double coat with white primer underneath. My biggest problem is going to be keeping it clean over time. |

did you unlock and overclock that baby any? I have almost the same setup and was thinking about ocing it, I have the K7S5A Pro with the 2100+ T-breb B.
BTW I'v seen donut's they make to cover bad cuts it just goes over the hole before you put the grill on and doesn't look bad. I'll see if I can find the link.

It is a Turbolink PSU. It isn't a very highly reated (in reviews) PSU. I opted for the Enermax because it is one of the top PSU manufacturers around. The Turbolink has tri-led fans in it and is dual fan and 420W. Even after all that, the reviews made me lean towards putting my 350W Enermax in.
As for OCing, it will run at 150 fsb fine at 38-41C under 100% load. Very stable. The only problem is that I had to runt he PCIs at 36.7 MHz and 12 hours of running at that, my 60GB Maxtor died. Coincidence or Crapxtor hdd's inaability to handle overclockgin??? I don't know. |
