Terks Quest for Silence Cont.
ok..... silence is golden right? well here is my delimma:
CPU hsf.... Volcano 9
Intake and Exhaust Fans: 2 90mm/80mm Zalman fans
Crystal Orb: for graphics card
Stock Power Supply
Here is my question... can anyone recommend a 350+ watt PSU that is VERY quiet? Cuz my old sucker is the dominant sound source in my case.... and it needs to be SILENT!!! i dont want to risk going in and putting a different fan in, so buying a new one is my only other way.... or is it? Any sound killing ideas are greatly appreciated!

Zalman makes silent power supplies. Have you considered buying sound absorbing foam to line the case with? That cuts down on the amount of noise. Just dont let any rock bands try to set off fireworks in your case.

I am not sure sound deadoning material will mke much difference. I just read a review of a $90 kit at www.silentpcreview.com and it helped but the dominant sound source was the PSU because the fan is right on the back of the case. Internal fans tend to get muffled anyway so unless your CPU fan is incredibly loud it will be quieter than the PSU fan.
Terk, I just got two of the Seasonic 300w PSUs from newegg for $29 apiece including shipping. It is a steal at that price. If you have to have the 350, then go to Directron or pricewatch it.
The reviews on the Seasonic were very, very positive.

So, who says the power supply fan **has to** be at the very rear of the case?
The same fan can be moved farther inside the case, and have the air DUCTED to blow through the PSU, instead of sucking it out of the PSU. Even with that I's suggest minimizing the air flow restriction by cutting out the "punched" grill, and replacing it with s rounded wire grill.I think I know.... Therefore I think .... I think .... I .... No?
