second power supply?
hi guys.
I currently have a 1.2 Althon Thunderbird.. 512ram..CD-RW, 30gig 7200rpm HD...3 additional fans connected to a fanbus, (last port no fanbus goes to a neon cathode.. but my last one burned out.. so i just got a new light that supposed to pulsate accordingly with the bass.. havent tried it out yet.. mailed it to my home home)...(also have a future project of an LCD comin soon i hope).... all this runnin off a 300W PS.
i also have a 250W PS that i actually had pretty much tossed aside when i got the 300W PS.. I'm looking to attach the 250 PS to my computer.. Probably build a lil house on top of my case for it to reside in so that my 300W PS doesnt have to take all the load of powering all my electronics..
i was told i need a relay for this to work.. but i'm not exactly sure how that works.. and having searched online, I'm still clueless.. i was wondering if anyone knows of a online guide or can explain just what I'm supposed to connect to this relay so that when i hit the main power switch, both PS's come online?
THANX!!

Why ? .. your 300watts PSU should handle a few more parts without problem .. so i think it will be totaly waste of power and money ...
I use 300watts PSU and use a lot of stuff without a problem ...
AMD XP 1600+ , 512MD ram, GF2 Pro video card, Intel Lan card, 2 HDDs, CDROM, CDRW, USB port with Smart card drive always connected ..120mm fan, 80mm fan X2, HDD fan X2, besdie the CPU and chipsets fans ....
I never had a problem, mind you my PC is overclocked to 153FSB which should consume more juice ...
Forget about it, you are doing fine

Thanx for the input KenKun...
oh yeah.. i forgot to mention.. i ran out of molex connectors so i bought them Y-Splitters.. so there are a BUNCH of things that are currently running off the Y-splitters instead of goin straight to the PS.. would that be a problem?

You'll probably want to have someone back me up on this but I'm pretty sure this is how you would do it:
Get a 12 or 5 volt relay (whichever you prefer) and wire it up the your current power supply so that the relay activates whenever you turn on your computer. Next on the secondary power supply look for the GREEN wire on the ATX connector. When grounded the green wire turns the power supply on. So what you do is hook the green wire and one of the black (ground) wires of the ATX connector to the relay. Thats it! Now when you turn your computer on it should turn on the primary power supply which will activate the relay to turn on the second.

Using a Mac turns you into a drooling idiot... I can't even find where to change the setting of what happens when you close the lid...
What's wrong with my MAC?
