Nic lights mod.
Here is mine. There is a blue light and a blinking red light. The blinking red is for a 100mbps connection. And the blue is for activity. The blue light is so bright there is a blue circle in the other side of the room at night.

The most expensive part is the led's. It is very easy. It takes 10-15 minutes to modify a nic card.

Cool.. now I don't have to look at the back of my computer to check my connection.

Hey, what else can you connect to LEDs like that, aside from HDD and the on/off lights? That would be cool (in an 80s glam sorta way) to have like ten lights on the front that flashed randomly. Like 'supercomputers' or the computer banks on Star Trek. Woot!

Very clever idea, now all you need to do is find a way to maybe label them nicely

Ok, I read that article on VH a while back (probably the day it was posted). Anyway, I like the idea and want to try it. But I have a 3com NIC, and it uses Surface Mounted LEDs. According to VH's site, that's harder to do, and he doesn't go into it at all. Has anyone tried this, and if so, how do you keep the wire secure? Unfortunately, due to networking requirements, I have to use a 3com card, so I can't change it for a Linksys or Netgear (where this idea works a lot easier).

that is cool! I used to try to look behind the computer all the time.. I have my hub sitting on my desk now... but that idea is cooler...
going to build a p100 into a linux router.. maybe I will put lights on for each net card...drojman

I did this mod on one of my systems already, kinda nice to know you have a connection without digging behind the tower to see the lights. The blue LEDs are mounted on each side of where the case emblem is supposed to go (waiting for TechIMO emblem
). The left one tells me it's connected, the right one flashes for traffic.

Case is an Antec KS-282+.What did a tornado sound like before freight trains were invented?
