Your motherboard is 22*C because it generates less heat, the CPU is usually the hottest part of the computer, because it generates the most heat, that's why it has a huge heatsink/fan on it. |

Disagree all you guys want.... That's YOUR prerogative !!
How many of you are running @ 36.6667° C/98°F??
When I whip on it -- I can get it up to about 109°F
I Agree 40° is fine , but the stock KooLeRz suck because they CLOG too easily - & BTW there are two types you'll find in the AXP's package too -- the newer ones have MUCH coarser fins on the HSF , which DO work quite well , the ones with the "fine" fins BloW ChunX.... I guess I should have clarified that -- I'd even bet the guys that disagreed are running the newer style HSF.
Of course there are people that doubt me.... and they wouldn't trust a screen-shot either - but I learned how to cool a PC well , back when I ran a 1Ghz t-bird on an A7V !!! THAT ran hot...EVEN with a 120mm/107CFM blowhole in the side.... Robert

I couldn't figure out why my chip was running hot until i pulled the fan off and realized there was no place for the air to go due to massive dust buildup! I washed the sink (in the sink! ha) and load temps dropped almost 10°C. Also of interest, I flipped my stock amd fan upside down so that it sucks air through the sink, and dropped another couple degrees. In my case, this is probably due to the case fan right above it that is sucking air outward, thus almost doing what a duct would do. The stock sink ain't bad, but the fan is tiny and cheap and for $12 shipped you can't go wrong. I'm going to order a new setup like that for mine whenever I order a new video card, but even with some mild OCing this stock hsf from amd is working fine. |

Here's my problem with running a heatsink fan to "pull" heat off the heatsink....you're going to shorten the life of the fan because the electronics in the fan are going to get hotter. Does the heater in your car pull air off the heater core? Sure doesn't. Do you know of any other application that has a fan pulling hot air off of "X"? Heat is the enemy, no matter it be a CPU, GPU, RAM, circuit boards, or the Fans themselves.
Something to keep in mind at any rate |

Am Back !!!
noooooo my problem with having the 40C CPU temps and mobo at 22C is that both used to run high, mobo at 37C and the CPU at 45. then i put a 80mm fan in the front, cut the front panel for it to get air, and put better fans in the back and also bought a double fan PSU which AMD recommends. and that dropped the temps drastically and i am saying why not the CPU ?????
before i used to have a silent 300W-single fan. and was happy with that than the noisy two fan one !!!!!!!!too bad.
and i am just concluding that i have messed with the CPU more than enough, and it is giving up on me. I have mounted in 10 different mobo's to test mobo's, and put three different types of compounds, once i also put extra antec silver compound and had to remove it using a nail polish remover, and i think all this has just weakened it ??????? raising the temps.....
does anybody ever put a heatsink on the northbride ??? i just touch and feel all the parts after running the computer continously for a day and the CPU and the northbridge are the only ones that are hot, everything is cool enough......even after pusshing everything to the limits. (a though as i have an old heatsink from a videocard lieing around, find some use for that)
Help me....
Thanks. |

Most modern motherboards come with a heatsink for the northbridge, so I've never put one on one of my own motherboards.
I do know some people who have, and you say it's hot, so it's not a bad idea to put one.
FYI: a VGA cooler might not fit on your northbridge.

I tried putting it on there to check it out and it fits quite rite !!!!!!!!!
and i am not sure the north bride or the south bridge, the one that is next to the CPU socket has a heatsink of it's own and is hot, the other one that is away near the IDE controllers which says VIA on it is hot, and i wanna deal with that !!!!!!!!
which one is that ??? any clue
i am planing to put some Antec Silver Compound - i already have, and put glue on the edges of the heatsink to stick it to the South Bridge(maybe)........
will this fly, will there be better cooling on this chip ?? |

I am thinking i have the older model of the heatsink and fan from AMD, this is has the fine blades in the heatsink and a small thin fan(60mm may be)
so only if i had the newer one, i could have been better off !!!!!! |
