Ducting is definitely the way to go about air cooling! I'm cooking up a system right now that basically mimics a watercooling setup, except air will be "pumped" through the tubes rather than water, by use of a small axial blower. A normal radial fan would work, but blowers tend to build pressure better and they have a smaller output chamber that's easier to adapt to the ductwork. The first step will be to duct the cpu by itself, which will basically just consist of plating over the top where the original fan sat, and hooking an inlet and outlet tube so that air flows straight across the sink fins and gets exhausted back outside the case. This takes nice cool air from outside the case and not only keeps the cpu cooler, but also keeps the case cooler and lots cleaner, since I will probably just have the one PSU fan keeping air moving through the case itself. I don't really see the need for a filter, just clean your cases every now and then! Ahhh I forget some of you have neon lights and windows in there Whatever, panty hose sounds about right, while coffee filters will restrict airflow quite a bit. A chopped up house A/C filter would probably work well if you really need one.

If I don't get around to building the air duct tangle, I will probably get a higher flow ~60mm fan and hang it from a bracket off the AGP slot screw that will let the fan blow in one direction across the heatsink so airflow isn't as turbulent as the factory setup, and doesn't have the dead spot either

Hi all, Here's my question - I just bought an 60 - 80mm converter in order to replace my 60mm heatsink fan (which is showing symptoms of dying) with a spare 80mm fan I had lying around. I only just realised that my heatsink fan has 3 wires (red, black, yellow) while my 80mm fan only has two (black and red). I read earlier in this post that the yellow wire is for monitoring purposes - can anyone elaborate on that? And does anyone have any advice on how I can successfully complete this fan mod without any possibility of frying my CPU?
