Couple questions..
Where is a good web site to find those round ide cables? My standard ide cables drive me nuts and i cant see anything. Need to be ata 100 cables also.
Also looking for 2 new case fans. The two that came in my case are LOUD. Looking for two that are nice and quiet. Thanks guys. I have no idea on where to begin for this kind of stuff.

After looking at those cables I came up with an idea. Can I just take duck tape and tightly wrap it around my existing wires? I couldnt care less what it looks like, just hate not being able to see anything when i have the covers off? Would this work or would it mess something up?

January 9th, 2002, 01:46 AM #7use electrical tape instead, That is what I did. What I did was took a hair dryer and warmed up the cables and then rolled them up and wrapped electrical tape all the way around. Now you got nice home made rounded cables. Never had a problem with mine.Originally posted by ILC

Warming up the cables make them easier to roll.

It is possible to self round cables by using a razor blade and cutting the insulation between each individual stand (some cut them into groups too). But with ATA-66/100 cables there are so many small wires that its difficult to accomplish without ruining the cable.

Right I have heard and seen that method too, I was going to do that till another TechIMO memeber turned me onto the Hairdryer and Roll method.
Probably could get a tighter roll doing it the splicing method but 1. its too time consuming 2. if you nic or cut a wire your cable is worthless.

Edit:Tachyon, You are correct its possible.

Never heard of the the hair dryer and roll method. I'll have to try that sometime.

I rolled mine then used plastic tie wraps instead of tape. You can fold them twice also if it's too hard to roll them. Makes them fairly slender for airflow purposes.

As long as the cable is warm (room temp) you can fold and tape or better still lace. Fold into a W with the outer arms of the W doubled.

I did about the same thing as NeoStar, except I tossed them in the oven set to 200F, for about 10 min, then wrapped them in split loom. Came out pretty good.
I also use one of the pre-rounded ATA100 cables from Newegg--it's really nice.

The site is still hosed for me. In other news, it's still 78° here. It's supposed to hit 100° tomorrow.
