Overclocking
Hey everyone, Im kinda new to all this overclocking so if so I need all the help i can get. Ok lets start out with what i have.
MB- MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR
CPU- Barton retail xp2500+ w/ coolermaster turbo heatsink
2 different types or ram.... crucial pc2100 256 ddr and pny pc2700 256 ddr
geforce2 mx440
400w power supply and 40gb hd 2mb buffer
I have the 7.60 version bios.... i am clueless on the steps i need to do.... i don't want to take the risked of blowing my computer up.... i would greatly appreciate anyone that can assist me on making my computer faster. thank you

first of all, use 2 sticks of the SAME DDR ram, your only running pc2100 speeds even with that 2700 stick in there and still it may not be very efficient.
second, usually with the 2500 bartons, you can just up your FSB in the Bios from 166 staight to 200 without changing anything else and you should run at athlon xp 3200 speeds. At boot up it should also read athlon xp 3200. If you go higher i would start messing slightly with voltage, but running at 3200 is quite a jump and i would stay with that until you get more comfterble with overclocking. But do this at your own risk as i take no responsability in how you overclock.
I had a 2500 barton with a MSI K7N2 Delta L 400 edition nForce 2 chipset with 1 gig of pc 2700 OCZ in dual channel.
I just put my FSB in the bios to 200 and whala....Athlon Xp 3200.
Try it and see how it works, to be honost, it should work out fine.
good luck.
edit here: also always keep an eye on your temps..as they may increase slightly on the cpu.

i wouldn't go straight from 166 to 200. i would up it a little at a time until i got to 200.

I have the same video card as you got, and I use Riva Tuner to overclock it. Its easy and it works.

Robin has a point also, maybe take it a little at a time and see how stable everything stays...that would probably be the safest way to proceed. But it should reach 200 leaving multiplier at 11 X

March 28th, 2004, 08:42 AM #6i use the same for overclocking my ti4200..but i would start out with the cpu if that is what your intentions are for overclocking?Originally posted by DanGrease

then if you get it where you want it, then mess with the video card overclockablilty if you want to. But remember, upping the FSB also ups everything else also (pci cards, agp cards, mem).

Thanx everyone.... im going to try to take my pc2100 ram out and then over clock it and also my geforce2 is already overclocked to 175mhz core and 334mhz memory frequency... i used omega drivers to do that... if there is a better program could you show me where to get it.... thanx everyone

1st off you need to get your memory on the same page. Then you may want to get used to the OC process. You need to keep in mind that you can change either the FSB or you can use the multiplier. For quick notes on this you can set your FSB at 166 and change your multiplier to 12.5. This should give you a 2800+ @ 2.083 Ghz or you can leave your multiplier at 11.0 and increase the FSB to 200 Mhz which would give you a 3200+ @ 2.2 Ghz . The only diff. I see is that changing to a 2800+ has not increased my V-Core temp where as when changing to a 3200+ I went from 47C to 49C up to 51C to 53C. If you need to convert to F then multiply the degree's in C by 9 divide by 5 and add 32. Anyway I am using a Tt Volcano 10 running @ 3700 RPM when increasing the fan speed over 3900 RPM I seen an increase in V-Core temp. Anyway good luck with that 2500+ (Great Chip for the Money)

If your memory is only pc2700 (said you took out pc2100) then setting fsb to 200mhz you will be overclocking the memory also. the best (and probably stablest) way to get to 200mhz is to have pc3200 ram. that way the ram is not being overclocked also.

I ran pc2700 1:1 with FSB at 200 with an Athlon XP2500 with mem in dual channel, worked fine, mem benchmarked better also. Just make sure your mem can handle the up to 200 FSB. I was using generic ram and it took it, so i believe you will be alright.
