athlon 64 vs. athlon 3200 xp
so is it better to buy a athlon 3200+ xp or a athlon 64?

Depends on if price is a matter and if you want bragging rights, but of course the Athlon 64 is better.

athlon 64. Yeup thats about it.
You cant really compare them, the athlon xp is old and the athlon 64 is new.

Performance wise the 64 is a much petter cpu because it's a much newer architecture (not even including the 64-bit ability). If you get a 64 though i would recommend trying to get one with a 1mb cache because the 512k cpu's tend to lag a little. The 3200+ w/ 1mb cache runs for $270 on newegg right now.
see here
Even if you decide to go with a 64 2800+ it's still about the same as an xp 3200+ performance and price-wise and gives you at least a marginally longer upgrade future, not to mention SSE2.

This is the exact comparison you wanted. It should answer your question.

Satan working at McDonald's is pretty funny. Something good to pass the time between class.
