CPU voltage problem?

Hi. I have a MSI K7T266 Pro2RU with Athlon XP 1600+ and i cannot push the FSB more than 140 mhz with default voltage selected, so i tried to give some more voltage for stability, tried 1.775 - 1.800 but when i check it with MBM 5 inside XP pro ti goes from 1.680 to 1.748, it never goes to the settings i put in bios. Is there a problem or not? Using Enermax 350W psu with 2 Quantum Fireball HDDs, Pioneer DVD, HP CDRW and Geforce2GTS.

WELCOME to TechIMO !!
I'm not aware of any issues with MBM misreading your voltage, maybe one of these other guys have something. but maybe the RAM just can't take it. What kind are you using?

I m using 2 256 sticks of Crucial 2100. I read many guys being able to push that kind of memory to 150 or more.

Hi ..
If you couldn't push this XP to more than 140FSB .. it is most likely that your RAM or other part didn't like it ...
Most XP CPUs go 145-150FSB without the need of voltage increase at all ... I reached 150FSB with 1.775 ..

So check your RAM ... what kind of RAM you use anyway?

Regards and Welcome to TechIMO

I also tried to remove all the other cards from the system leaving only the Geforce but it goes stable only with 140 fsb, if i put 142 or more WinXp locks up 2-3 minutes after booting with errors on win32*whatever*, i don't remember, i'm at work now and cannot check it...

I get for the mb 32C idle to 34C when playing RTCW or Medal of honor (i think those games are pushing enough the system) and the cpu goes from 36 idle to 39-40 load. i got a lian li pc60 and the cooler is a zalman 5000 copper without the fanmate on it. no heat problem, i m just curious why do i get those voltage readings and if they re correct.

Obviously you don't have heating problems .. mmm .. you RAM are great (Crucial) ... i'm puzzled with this one ..

About the voltage thing .. i don't think you should relay on MBM reading as a 100% correct ones ...
I use 1.775 and MBM reads them as 1.79v .. i don't think thats correct too...

i think the default voltage for XP cpus is 1.75 and if the readings are true, dropping below this would cause instability. 1.68 is the min i get and if it is true do you have any ideas how can i fix it?
