No fan for CPU??
Hi all,
I have an old whitebox sitting around that I am thinking about making into a file server and a distributed computing node.
I have a Duron 800 with a copper heatsink with a Delta fan on it. It runs great but it sounds like a dustbuster. Do you think I could get away with taking the fan off and just running with the sink??
I do have some quieter fans lying around, but the less noise the better.
Thanks- Mike

I don't think it would last very long w/o a fan. Most fans are MUCH quieter than a Delta. I buy mine at www.nexfan.com
One of the quietest solutions if you have the room is to put an 80mm case fan with an adapter on the heatsink.Last edited by elroy; October 16th, 2004 at 11:44 AM.

That what I was thinking, but, I was hoping that someone had actually tried it first.

Wire the fan at 7v for a huge drop in noise, or even 5v if the small motor will turn over at that low of a voltage.
