high performance ram and cpu for rendering

hey i need a gig of ram (or more?) for programs like maya as i am an "aspiring" 3d arts student and want the best performance my budget is 300 dollars total for the ram

im leaning towards the amd 64 3400 with 1mb l2 cache but maybe pentium would be better?

thats a starter if you need anyother info il give it

is that the budget for the ram or the ram and cpu? if its both you will have a hard time getting that

Your budget for just the ram is $300?

the 3400+ would work great, but if you want to spend go ahead and get a P4, though I don't know if it would make enough of a difference to make it worthwhile.

300 bucks only for the ram i said that already

but yeah would it be better to get 1 gig of like corsair xms w/ low latency or 2 gig of value select

i would definitely get 2 gigs

i think that applications such as those gain a lot from the size of RAM, and little from the latency/speed of it so you would be much better off with 2 gigs
