Thumbs up Who has one...and do you like it..???

I just bought an AMD Sempron 2400 (1.66 Ghz) 69.00$ !! Retail with HSF

this thing is rock solid...i overclocked it from it's standard 333 FSB (166) to (180)@ 1.8 Ghz and it's running like a champ !! It has a T-Bred Core also. I think this is a great cpu for the money and again AMD has come through with another cpu that i think will catch on pretty good.

Anyone else have one or any thoughts on these processers....

(Also, i am not using it for gaming, just standard PC use/word processing etc..)

I have built a system the other day with the 2800 in it and it seemed slower then my 2600+ thoroughbred core. but I would say grab a Barton to anyone who is looking at upgrading at the moment as they are better due to the larger cache.

But I think the Sempron will beat the Celeron any day

i had an Athlon xp 2100 in here before i bought this and i personally think this is much more stable then the 2100+...I just now overclocked it to 190 FSB...Don't think i will leave it at this due to the stock HSF, but would like to know how high this thing will go....

So far this has performed faster then my 2100+ Palimono and overclocks alot better also....

Considering its a 2400 and a much newer core based on a matured .13 micron manufacturing process, I would certainly hope it would outperform and overclock better than a 2100+ using a core thats 2 years older that peaked at 2100+ and on a .18 process.

I bought myself the Sempron 3100+ alond with the Epox 8KDA3+ motherboard.

I must say that I am very pleased.

At default speed, and under load, she stays at 34C and when overclocked to 2.4Ghz, from 1.8Ghz default, she goes upto 43-45C under load.

Will post benchmarks soon, as soon as I figured this hardware firewall out.

My "fsb" runs 268Mhz, which leaves my HT busspeed at 1072Mhz instead of it's default 800Mhz.

I am glad that I bought the 3100+ tho, cause for socket A, they will not perform as well as the XP cpu's unless you overclock em beyond their normal speed.

My 3100 beats the XP3200+, even tho the 3100 runs 1.8Ghz and the 3200 runs at 2.2Ghz.

Will get better ram soon, cause christmas is coming up, I am doubting between Corsair XMS ram, or corsair DDR500, not sure yet.

My barton 2500+ goes from 1.8Ghz to 2.2Ghz on stock cooling and only 2 case fans. In general newer socket A cpu's oc very well. What are the temps now?

yea I agree with Ultima. 3100+ is the greatest Sempron, and probably the only one for gamers on a tight budget looking to upgrade. Socket A Semprons are terrible compared to XPs, but XPs are terrible overclockers (unless they're barton) compared to the Semprons

Cooling isn't really that important sweeper2, it's all in the core itself, you can get it as high as you want/can on stock cooling as long as the temps do not exceed 60-65 degrees under full load, or at least that's how it is on my athlon 64 3000+ I upgraded to WC and a new PSU thinking that I can get this puppy to 2400MHz and above, but I can't because it's like the core is "locked" at 240MHz FSB

well unfortunatly this MB doesn't have any temp sensors or voltage sensors...or at least i don't think it does...

shows nothging in the bios or I have tried all the "software" programs etc, none of them show any temps and only the cpu voltage....

    it is a Chaintec CT-7NJL6

kinda sucks...the HSF doesn't feel to hot...but i backed it off to 190 FSB to be on the safe side....

the old 2100+ tbred b (1833mhz) was pulling 2400mhz clock speeds 2 years ago on air. Wayyyyy before the barton came onto the scene. The sempron socket a is just a relabelled xp. The pr rating matches the celeron d mhz scheme.

well, bumped it back up again...going to run for awhile and see what happens...seems ok, no problems...

not bad for a 1.6 Ghz cpu to overclock up to 2.0 Ghz on stock cooling...

especially considering that it is an AMD cpu, not an intel

    semprons are great overclockers

Just run Prime95 for a while, that will tell you if you're getting too warm at full load as it will cause errors in the program before the CPU gets hot enough to actually damage itself.
