    MY 2700+ is a 2600+ WTF AMD

I had this chip for a while and it really doesnt bug me much but lately I have been really thinking about so I decided to post a thread on it.

Heres the deal, I have a 2700+ installed in a farily decent Gigabyte board with via kt600a northbridge

The athlon is the newer style 333 bus .

For some odd reason my multiplier is locked on this board when it wasnt on my nforce 2 board ? got me.

It's locked in the bios and when you use the Gigabyte easy tune overclocker.

So the problem is my chip registers as a 2600+, both in the bios and in the Easy tune overclocker, the easy tune reads
    Multiplier 12.5
    FSB 167
    Speed mhz 2086

Now correct me if im wrong but an Athlon 2700+ 333 should run @ 2.17
    and an Athlon 2600+ 333 runs @ 2.083

so hmmmm......... anyone wanna take a stab at it ?

BTW yes the label on the proc does say 2700+ and its an authentic proc label.

Well, I'm not too sure about your problem but what I can say is that Nforce2 boards are able to unlock certain Athlons. My Asus A7N8X Deluxe unlocked my Tbred 2100+.

no the amd 3000+ is clocked at 2.16. i think to unlock it you need to set the fsb to user defined.

Well I dug up this review to show that I was right on what speed it should be.

    http://www.gamepc.com/labs/view_cont...axp2700&page=2

and I also see I should have a 13x multiplier.
hmmm.... the plot thickens, guess I found my own answer.

I have the latest bios on my mobo, should I contact gigabyte and bitch ?

nForce2 boards are the only boards that can unlock the multiplier on SOME athlon processors.

they probably sold you a 2600, so yeah I would "bitch" about it it isn't very much speed difference and it is not an expensive cpu but it is about the principal
