Need quiet Athlon HS/Fan!
Hey turtle people!

Okay...for whatever reason, my ThermalTake Volcano 6CU+ has been loud since day 1 (although OuT swears his is quiet) and I really, really would like to replace it with a silent cooler. My temps never leave the 40's, so I need a quiet one that actually works.

What the...how did that get in there???

Thanks in advance!

21db seems quiet enough.
/edit I like the shirt. They have those at a local store.

Hey, nice cooler...going from 39db to 21db should be quiet nice!

Have you ever used it or did you look up Thermaltake and sort by votes? (which I do a lot)
Anyone know of any that aren't close to $30? Or is this one of those "you get what you pay for" items?

Martoch,
You may want to check out the offerings from these guys: http://www.silenx.com/productcart/pc/mainindex.asp.
I have no experience, but their products' reviews seem to come from legit sources. Their 600W silent PS and 120mm fans (58cfm @ 14dBa!) intrigue me.Last edited by jmichna; December 8th, 2004 at 10:31 AM.

They do look cool, but they're a little pricey for me right now...$33.95 is the cheapest socket A listed. They do pride themselves on the quietness though, just wish I had a little more $$$ to spend on one.
Dear Santa,
I've been a very naughty boy this year, but I still want a HS/Fan for my AMD Athlon XP2000+ (it's OC'd). Don't you dare install it though, NOBODY touches my computer!!!
Merry Christmas,
Mikey

Just to add to this conversation I had one of these installed on my OCed 2500 barton @ 2.2Ghz. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...150-040&depa=0
It kept things around 47 full load out of the box with included thermal paste. I then lapped it and put on some ArcticSilver 5 and that temp got down to 44 for a heatsink/fan that you can't hear unless your head is inside the case. (**I also have reasonably poor case cooling because I have my fans turned all the way down)Last edited by bombledmonk; December 8th, 2004 at 12:53 PM.

Thanks bombledmonk, that's more in my price range...I'll have to check it out a little more, seems to be a great "bang for the buck" item.

if you buy an expensive heat sink like he did, you will be very happy with the results. when he runs his processor near stock speeds (which isnt usual because he is a heavy overclocker) it is very cool... even at .7ghz higher than that he can still keep it reasonable

LOL, thank you butch.
Console.... but how can you run 15C idle? That would mean your room would have to be below 15C because you cannot cool below ambient and that's pretty darn cold to be sitting at a computer.

December 8th, 2004, 05:39 PM #15This is the HS/fan my brother- in-law bought when I helped him build his computer last week. I'm using a volcano 11 Xaser, and it's only quiet if the fan is set to low.

holy crap dude. I live in Ottawa, but I don't live in an igloo like you do. Wow, but it does wonders for cooling

Wowza, that's freezing!!! It was in the mid 70's here in FL today.
Thanks for the suggestions...I think I'm going to go with the Thermaltake SILENT BOOST. The reviews are fantastic and I guess I'll fork up a little extra $$$ for a high quality product.

Can't go wrong with that. I've always liked Thermaltakes.
This high today was 32F (freezing) but it's been so windy today!

Ordered it...along with a tube of Arctic Silver 5!

Thanks again...I'm tired of having to turn my computer off at night so I can hear my son calling me at 5am from his room...if I don't get there right away, he wakes everyone else up.

Also in Afterburner, when it shows the GPU usage one shows like 0-53% usage where as the other one is always on 0% , Is this normal ? |Thanks.
