    question on processor speed and oc'ing

     
    i have a amd athlon xp 2500 (barton) that is supposed to be a 1.8ghz processor but went to the control panel -> system and it says 1.2 ghz. Do i need to go into the bios and change something. if so what? thanks. I need to get a better speed out of this processor.

    Asus A7V600
    1GB PC 3200 DDR (400mhz)
    AMD Athlon XP 2500 barton core
    80gb 7200 rpm
    ext. 80gb Firewire Drive
    128mb ATI 9600 AIW

    Sounds like your CPU's bus speed is running at 100mHz... or else the CPU multiplier is not set at default... BUT

    Before you do anything, however, download a program like "WCPUID" or "CPU Z" or "Computer Brain ID" and see what speed they say your CPU is at. Also, try to catch the CPU's speed early on during the POST display... see what that says.
