hi everyone
im just trying to get a little more out of my 2.4'a' (at least thats what everest says it is, even though it has a 533 fsb as standard, instead of the 400 fsb )
so anyways, i stick the fsb up to 160 mhz (everyone knows its quad pumped to effectively get it to 640) and it runs perfectally, but when i put it up to 167 mhz (to try and break the 3ghz barrier), the computer crashes during windows startup.
heat is not a problem, at the moment im running at 2.88ghz, at 34 C idle, and 40ish under load
so has my cpu hit its limit? or should i bump the voltage up and try again?

try increading voltages, fsb, ect at much smaller increments. Try to go up only ~10MHz at a time. Then reboot and check if its stable, then up it a little more, reboot....
don't up it like 100MHz at a time, it'll probably have problems, so bepatient with your OC.

are you checking if it's stable when you increment, or are you calling booting windows and running a round of 3dmark03 running "perfectly"?
i'm asking because the cpu will usually get unstable before it simply wont boot into windows, and yours might very well have hit its limit well before 167.

Your "A" must be a "B"---anything over 3.0 is real good for a 2.4 with your memory and voltages being the most important factor, thats a good oc thats hard to beat... |

hmm its wierd, because everest says its an 'a', even though it has 533 fsb as standard
also, dont the 'a's have a crippled l2 cache (if my memory is correct 256kb),?
mine has 512 |
