Cores
I'm trying to select a CPU for the computer I'm building. I've pretty much settled on an AMD 64 3500+ socket 939. Now I'm not sure what would be best in terms of a core. Any suggestions helpful.

But which is faster (or has the ability to go faster)?

Well, the winchester stays coolest, which allows you to clock it higher... But I still recommend you be careful when doing such a thing.
Meh, I don't really think that there's any huge difference between most cores, though, IMO.
Still, I recommend the winchester.Intel Core i7-860 OCed to 4.0GHz | ASUS P7P55D-E | G.Skill 8192MB (4x2048MB) RAM | MSI GTX 280 | 2x Seagate 160GB 7200.11 RAID 0

This shows the power consumption for idle and load. Notice the winchesters only use ~30W! So you could potentially overclock it higher.

Hey, im working on OCing my 3500+ Winchester right at this moment

I got PC4000 RAM which runs at 500mhz..
So far 11x230mhz = 2,530mhz and its running stable
Been Fadding for 2 days and no hangs... and its 39C on LOAD!!
Get a Winchester and good RAM and ur all settled
EDIT: Run 27-28C on idle using a ThermalTake SilentBoost K8 @ 2000rpm
Im aiming at 2,8gnz.. ill keep in touch
AMD Opteron 146 2.8ghz 280x10
1GB GEIL ONE S PC3200
DFI LanParty UT NF4 Ultra-D
ATI X1800XT @ 700/800
Enermax Noisetaker 485W

Winchester all the way!

Performance-wise the 90nm (winchester) and 130nm chips should be equivalent but winchester runs cooler, uses less power and potentially overclocks better.
